
Professor Sattinger obtained his
PhD under Norman Levinson at M.I.T. in 1965. He has held positions on the
mathematics faculties at UCLA, the University of Minnesota, and Yale
University. His research includes topics in stability and bifurcation theory,
nonlinear partial differential equations, nonlinear waves, and integrable
systems. Now retired, he is an Associate member of the mathematics faculty at
the University of Arizona, and a docent at Kitt Peak National Observatory and
the Steward Observatory Mirror Lab. His current research interests include
history of astronomy, and nonlinear partial differential equations in cosmology
and relativity.
