Teaching Philosophy

A detailed review of my teaching philosophy and history can be found in my teaching statement. In short, as an educator, my primary objective is to engage students in mathematics so as to encourage them to take ownership of their education. I do this by making use of application motivated examples and focusing on broader connections between course/research topics and the past and future studies of my students. Summaries of student responses to my course can be found in my TCE Reports.

GTEAMS Fellowship

The GTEAMS fellowship was a part of the NSF GK-12 Fellowship programmed aimed at introducing graduate students in STEM into K-12 classrooms. As a GTEAMS fellow, I worked with Tatiana Kolesikova at BASIS Tucson North for two year. During that time, I assisted Tatiana with two capstone courses - Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations. My responsibilities included:

  • Creating and teaching lesson plans on select topics
  • Providing examples of real world applications
  • Development and review of involved end-of-chapter modeling projects

More information on the GTEAMs program and sample lesson materials can be found on my GTEAMS Profile.
