What is SIAM?

SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics: www.siam.org) is an international organization which hosts publications and conferences in a wide range of fields. The SIAM mission is "to build cooperation between mathematics and the worlds of science and technology through our publications, research, and community." SIAM provides free student memberships to graduate students at the University of Arizona as well as funding for those chapters.

What can you expect from the SIAM student chapter this year?

The SIAM student chapter will be hosting a variety of events this year. The purpose of these event will be to present current research at the University of Arizona, describe experiences after the program, and promote professional development. Here are types of talks you can expect this year:

  •  Experiences of alumnae currently working in industry and

  • Experiences and research of current post-docs

  • How to use programs such a LaTex and Matlab
  • How to create professional-looking websites and CVs
