Illustrative Mathematics Professional Development Collaboration
February 2–3, 2013
Tucson, Arizona
About this workshop
The Illustrative Mathematics community runs a number of different professional development programs for individuals to learn about the Common Core in Mathematics (CCSSM). The participants in this conference are involved in one or more efforts of the Illustrative Mathematics or affiliated efforts such as the c-TaP Toolkit. The goals of the workshop are as follows:
- Inform the illustrative mathematics community about different professional development efforts already happening within the organization. (e.g. c-TaP Toolkit, task writing groups, national conferences, webjams, fractions progression module)
- Create a space for individuals to learn from each other about the content of the standards, and ways to teach others about the standards.
- Spread knowledge about creating task writing groups, and encourage others to start task writing groups in their geographical or content area.
- Create new professional development modules, or ideas and ways forward for needed modules, related to training teachers on the CCSSM.
Our philosophy of professional development is that a wide variety of stake holders should take leadership roles in the implementation of these new standards. This workshop will include classroom teachers, mathematicians, coaches, administrators, district and state math experts, and math educators collaborating together. We value the input from different expertise in conversations about mathematics and classroom implementation.
