Introduction - These Section Policies are intended to complement and in some cases add to the Course Policies that are found in the Course Files under Business Mathematics II on the Business Math web site (Business Math). The Section Policies are NOT intended to override or conflict with the Course Policies. If you feel that there is such a case, talk to the instructor for clarification.
Class Meetings- The class meeting times and locations are:
Prerequisites - For Math 115b, Math 115a must have been successfully completed.
Course Materials - The course text is an e-text that you will obtain by going to the D2L site for your section of Math 115b, clicking on MBD Part 2 in the blue navigation bar, and then downloading and unzipping the files as directed. The material consists of a set of PowerPoint, Excel and Word files with links to streaming video and internet sites. For Math 115b, the text is entitled Mathematics for Business Decisions, Part 2, Release 2.2, 2011: Calculus and Optimization. A Student Manual for Mathematics for Business Decisions is available in the Bookstore. This text is not mandatory but is highly recommended. In addition each student should have at least a USB flash memory device. A calculator such as the TI 83 Plus is required and should be brought to each class meeting. Calculators that perform symbolic manipulations (such as the TI-89 or TI-92) are not permitted. No sharing of calculators is allowed during quizzes or examinations.
Class Attendance/Absences - Attendance is very important in this class. Roll will be taken at each meeting. If the first class meeting of the semester is missed, the instructor reserves the right to administratively drop a student. If three consecutive classes are missed any time during the semester, the instructor reserves the right to administratively drop the student. More than four unexcused absences during a semester may also result in an administrative drop. In the case of an unavoidable absence, communication with the instructor by e-mail and communication with team members is highly recommended.
Team Projects - Teams, teamwork and team projects are a significant part of this course. There will be two team projects in the course. Teams with nominally four to six members each will be selected at the beginning and the mid-point of the course at the discretion of the instructor. The teams are formed for the purpose of conducting projects whose objectives are to solve specific business problems. The team projects are divided into four point earning opportunities not including team homework (discussed later). The points for team projects are assigned as follows:

The preliminary and final oral presentations will employ PowerPoint slides with all team members having a part in the presentations. Attire will be business appropriate and will be discussed in detail in the class. The final oral presentation and final written report will be due on the same day at the end of the project. The project quiz will be the final opportunity to earn project points.
Homework - Homework assignments will consist of team homework assignments. Team homework will be completed by the teams with all team members participating and contributing. This will be confirmed by all team members signing a cover sheet to be affixed to the homework when it is submitted. Assignments will be due at the beginning of the class period. Late homework assignments will not be accepted at the discretion of the instructor.
Quizzes - Quizzes will be individual efforts and may be one of three types: announced in-class quiz, unannounced in-class quiz or D2L quiz. There will be no make-ups for quizzes.
Exams - There will be two midterm examinations and a common comprehensive final examination as stated in the course syllabus. There will be no make-ups for any of the examinations. If a midterm exam is missed, the final examination score will be used for that midterm result.

Grade - If the student earns at least 55% of the total points for individual work and at least 55% of the total points for team work, the letter grade for the course will be calculated as follows according to total points earned:

Dropping the Course - The last day that the course can be dropped with course enrollment removed from your record is 2-5-2013 and the last day to drop the course with a grade of "W" is 3-6-2013.
Incomplete Grade - A grade of "incomplete" will be given according to the policy that can be found at the following: www.registrar.arizona.edu/gradepolicy/incomplete.htm

It is the students' responsibility to know, understand and abide by the policies and procedures cited in these two documents.
Rules and Decorum - The rules of conduct are simple. The following behavior qualities are expected: courtesy, respect, honesty, attentiveness, punctuality, and dedication. The proper mix of these and other related qualities will allow this class to be a positive learning experience. And we will have a good time. No food or drink, other than water in a container with a lid, are allowed in the classroom.
Technology Devices - A calculator (TI 83 or equivalent) will be required for this course. The sharing of calculators during quizzes and examinations will not be allowed. PDA's will not be allowed for quizzes and exams. Cell phones, pagers and all similar devices are to be turned off while in the classroom.
