Professional Development Workshop in Teaching Mathematics . Spring 2010

My approach to the professional development to be provided in this course will be multi-faceted.  The activities, discussions, and collaborative work we will engage in have be conceived to be useful and practical during your first semester of teaching and the rest of your teaching career.

Some of the content of the course will be directly grounded on the material you will be teaching in College Algebra.  Some of it will be more conceptual, touching on well-known perspectives on what doing mathematics in the classroom means within various frameworks, such as the Reform Mathematics movement.

As a whole, I have aimed at designing a course that will enhance your growth as both a doer and a teacher of mathematics.
